The mask in the image is a Moreno mask, a traditional Bolivian dance mask primarily associated with the Morenada dance.

The Moreno mask and the Morenada dance are believed by many Bolivians to represent the African slaves brought to Bolivia during the colonial period, particularly those forced to work in the silver mines of Potosí or in vineyards. The exaggerated features, such as large lips and tongues, are thought to symbolize the suffering and exhaustion of these workers.

While specifically identified as a Moreno mask used in Morenada, similar masks are also found in other Bolivian carnival dances, including the Diablada (Dance of the Devils), which depicts devils and other characters in elaborate costumes and masks.
