This is as fine as they come these days for a Peruvian nativity retablo with 2 doors. The detail and construction on this piece is very, very good: signed by Tobias Caceres who creates beautiful retablos for competitions in Cuzco. The Holy Family is surrounded by angels, shepherds, ox, sheep, cow and others dressed in traditional attire. Retablos originally were devotionals that were portable shrines taken into the countryside by shepherds to comfort and prayer. This piece is a nice combination of the Spanish Catholic traditional painting on top of wood and clay covered in plaster. This is how Peruvian religious saints and side altars in the churches are embellished.
This Retablo has doors that open in the middle with a beautiful nativity scene inside and is called "Nacimiento". It also has leather straps as hinges.
