These delightful figurines are 6” tall, each one unique, and from Michoacan.  The catrina image is synonymous with Day of the Dead and was created in the 1890's by the woodcut artist Jose Guadalupe Posada. It represented the rich French european women who strutted around Mexico City in their excessive finery like big hats with ostrich feathers, imported dresses, high heels and jewelry. He satirized them and cloaked them as skeletons to avoid being put in jail for insulting the government and ruling class. That's why people love to collect the catrina image. These are very well made pieces.
